Dissension in the Rank(ing)s
Last week, US News & World Report published their much anticipated (and, of late, much questioned) 2022 Best College Rankings. The top colleges are the usual suspects, and at this point are so routinely chosen, I don’t need to list names… The problem of “best” is similar to that of “beauty”—its definition rests squarely in the eye of the beholder.
The Constructive Part of Criticism
The difficulty in receiving constructive criticism is the tug-of-war between the mental benefit and the emotional reaction. Mentally, we all know that constructive criticism helps us grow as individuals as we pursue our professional and personal passions. Emotionally, we get defensive. While we can’t shut down our emotional response, we can limit its affect.
